The story focuses on a young black girl with beautiful long hair and her adoptive mother living in Central Joburg.

The story tells us how Rapunzel's mother uses her beautiful locks to exploit her for financial gain. She constantly forces her daughter to relax and straightened her 4c hair, which makes it lose its magical healing powers but makes her mother a lot of money as she holds viewings to show off her daughter's hair. As the plot unfolds, Rapunzel meets a young man outside of her tower in Joburg after coming back from a photoshoot, who convinces her to stop relaxing her hair by explaining the damage it causes and how it's holding back her "Black girl magic".
When Rapunzel tells her mother that she would like to start working with her natural hair she snaps at her and cut all her hair off. Rapunzel cries herself to sleep soaking her pillow. Surprisingly, the next morning Rapunzel wakes up with a giant afro that fills up half of the room, when her mother enters her room, she's surprised too and says, "Rapunzel! Rapunzel! Straightened your hair" as she grabs the big tub of relaxer. But as her mother approaches her, her hair begins to extend and fill up the rest of the room pushing her mother out the window falling to down the tower. Later Rapunzel goes to see her mother in hospital, but she been blinded as the relaxer splashed in her eyes as she fell down the tower. Her mother tells her how sorry she is for making her straightened her hair all this time as she didn't realize how dangerous the relaxer was. Hearing mother's apology brings Rapunzel to tears. She cries while she holds her mother, and her hair starts to glow and magically her mother sight is restored.
